Many Pets Happy with Food Donation #ChickenSoupPets

Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food recently donated 3,854 pounds of their nutritious pet food to help feed rescue animals at the Humane Society of Scott County (HSSC) in Davenport, IA. The donation is part of the pet food company’s Fill A Bowl... Feed A Soul™ (FABFAS) program, a national campaign targeting the donation of one million meals to shelter pets annually.

“When searching for a rescue organization to assist, we often turn to our dedicated independent pet specialty retailers to help identify animal shelters or foodbanks in their neighborhood,” said Jeanne Blandford, Director of Marketing for Chicken Soup for the Soul PetFood. “In this case, we reached out to Theisen’s Davenport Store and manager Jim Gable.”

“Not only did Theisen’s direct us to the Humane Society of Scott County,” continued Ms. Blandford, “but because HSSC is a smaller rescue without a loading dock, Theisen's accepted the nearly two tons of pet food at their Davenport store and then delivered it directly to the shelter. They used their own staff and volunteers. That shows true commitment to the dogs, cats and the Davenport community as a whole.”

Pamela Arndt, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Scott County thanked Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food and said, “Their donation of cat food came at the perfect time as our supply was getting low. The donation of grain free dog food is fabulous as we are seeing our dogs responding better on grain free food.”

Lady and the Tramp family movie night featuring #MoviesAnywhere and Petcube

We have one of those dogs who loves to watch movies. Petey reacts to dogs, cats, horses, and other animals on TV. As long as they are on the screen, he’s interested. As soon as they are off screen, he walks away. We enjoy family movies, especially when they are about dogs. Here's Petey watching the scene from Lady and the Tramp where the canines are crooning in "jail."

This is a #sponsored post.
Lady and the Tramp, a classic family favorite movie, is now available (released February 20th) digitally on Movies Anywhere. To help spread the word about the release of this heartwarming movie, we were given a code to view Lady and the Tramp on Movies Anywhere. I was intrigued to learn that this new movie streaming service allows you to watch movies any time from any location. In addition, we received a #Petcube pet cam, which allows us to view our dogs anytime from anywhere! What a fantastic combination!

First… the movie.  Step one, we installed the Movies Anywhere app on our Apple TV 4k streaming device. Then we entered the digital code for the movie. And within minutes, we were watching our feature presentation! It was that easy. Petey and Ernest joined us in watching the movie. While Ernest mostly slept, there were many times Petey perked up at the activities on the screen.

Petey watches baby Lady while Ernest rests.
Of course my favorite part is when Lady and Tramp eat spaghetti. Even Ernest checked that out.

Who doesn't love this scene?

We enjoyed the ease of using Movies Anywhere. It’s available to use with amazon, google play, itunes and Vudu. It’s convenient because it keeps all your movies in one place, and you can access them on any device. We watched Lady and the Tramp at home on our television, but could also watch anytime (and anywhere!) on a tablet, Roku, Android, Amazon Fire or whatever.

#LadyandtheTrampMA

Because it works across a number of platforms it allows you to take your digital film library with you no matter what device or operating system you’re using.
Now on to Petcube. This is an awesome, compact portable pet camera, so we can watch Petey and Ernest from anywhere too! Petcube is interactive and actually allows you to see, talk to and play with your pet. The device was super easy to install. The cube is small and looks attractive anywhere. The two way audio allows you to hear and talk to your pet. We have Petcube Play. This model also has a laser pointer you can use to play with your cat or dog from anywhere. I’m not sure if Petey and Ernest would respond to a laser pointer or not, but it will be fun to try.

The most impressive part is that the picture quality is amazing.  It features a 1080p HD video and the nightvision works surprisingly well in low and no-light conditions. The lens has a 138 degree wide angle view. I could see my hall and livingroom from just one position.

Picture capture from the Petcube pet camera.
Our Lady and the Tramp movie night was a great success. Fortunately, the movie ends happily ever after. I recommend both Movies Anywhere and Petcube, which together make it easier for you to watch your movies and your pets anytime anywhere. Ernest and Petey agree. Now they need a nap.

That was a good movie. Now, goodnight.

*FULL DISCLOSURE: We were provided with a code for one movie on Movies Anywhere and a Petcube play in exchange for my honest review. This in no way influenced my opinions. Opinions expressed here are 100% my own.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo's New Dog

The governor of the state of New York got a new puppy...and he's facing all the same issues that pet parents everywhere face.

Governor Cuomo held the large, squirming 14-week husky-shepherd mix in his arms at a press conference Tuesday. "This is Captain." He wanted to name him Excelsior, the state motto, but got outvoted by his family.

"This was the idea of my daughters, who had to have a puppy, had to have a puppy."
He added dryly, "They are nowhere to be found now."

The adorable dog has a gray face, white markings, and black eyebrows and rings around his eyes. His tail wagged and he seemed relaxed and curious during the press conference.

The governor also explained about house (or mansion) training. "He goes outside. He'll stay outside for any period of time he deems necessary and he will then come inside and urinate as soon as he gets inside He will only urinate indoors."  Captain also keeps the family awake with his nighttime howling. That's why they make puppies so cute, right?

I'm sure Captain will be a wonderful addition to the family and that the daughters will form close bonds with this adorable little guy.  All the best to Captain in his new home!

Good Night, Sleep Tight...Dog Bed Review and GIVEAWAY

Ernest and Petey love having their very own special napping places. We have several beds both upstairs and down. They always like trying out new ones, too.

We were invited to review a dog bed from Smiling Paws Pets. They carry pet beds for cats and dogs, along with other pet supplies. Would your dog like a new bed? We're giving away one free dog bed in the Rafflecopter below. So be sure to enter!

We received the Modern Dog Bed in size Large. The bed was too small for our adult golden retriever Ernest, but 9-month old Petey took to it immediately. It was actually on the small side for him too, but he loved rolling over atop the super-soft sherpa fabric.

Some of the pluses are that the bed is attractive, with a striped exterior and a brown sherpa interior. The bottom is a waterproof, slip resistant fabric. On the negative side is that the bed is more lightweight than I expected and the sides are not as sturdy as I thought they'd be. This hasn't detracted from Petey's enjoyment of the bed however.  He returns to it often for a cozy place to relax.

I think this bed is nice for the home or good for a lightweight travel bed. I haven't washed it yet, but it appears that it would machine wash well. P.S. If you don't win the dog bed, or if you want to check out one of the other products on the site, use this code to get 15% off your entire order. One per customer, valid until March 5th: Peggy15
So are you ready to win a Smiling Paws Pets dog bed of your own?!

Full Disclosure: We were provided one Modern Dog bed to review and one to give away in exchange for my honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion. Opinions expressed here are 100% my own.

Healthy Treats for Dogs #ChewyInfluencer

Top Ten about Nature's Variety Instinct Grain Free oven-baked dog biscuits:

10. Made in the USA
9. Natural
8. Grain free

7. Gluten free
6. No added sugar
5. Chicken meal is the first ingredient

4. Includes chickpeas, cranberries, pumpkinseeds and ground flaxseed
3. 25 calories a bisquit (medium sized biscuit)
2. crunchy!

1. My dogs love them.
Even these two muddy dogs coming inside from playing want their treats!

I found one surprising fact: I noticed "montmorillonite clay" on the ingredient list and I thought What is clay doing in my dog's food? That doesn't sound good. When I looked it up, however, I found that montmorillonite clay facilitates high-quality pet foods to remain free of harmful chemicals. The clay acts as a detoxifier. It can strengthen bones and joints, boost your pet's immune system, and is gaining popularity with veterinarians. So it's always good to do a little research if you an unfamiliar with an ingredient.

Chewy.com sent us a bag to try out and review and the dogs love them! These treats also come in Rabbit and apples, or Duck and sweet potatoes.
